He Went to Paris

[Key of G – G,C,D7,Em,Am ]

He went to Paris, looking for answers, to questions that bothered him so
He was impressive, young and aggressive, savin’ the world on his own
But the warm summer breezes, the French wines and cheeses put his ambition at bay
Summers and winters, scattered like splinters, and four or five years slipped away

He went to England, played the piano, and married an actress named Kim
They had a fine life, she was a good wife, and bore him young son named Jim
And all of the answers, and all the questions, he locked in his attic one day
‘Cause he liked the quiet, clean country livin’ and and twenty more years slipped away

Well, the war took his baby, bombs killed his lady, and left him with only one eye
His body was battered, his whole world was shattered and all he could do was just cry
While the tears were falling and he was recalling, answers he’d never found
So he hopped on a freighter, not a day later, and left England without a sound

Now he lives in the islands, fishes the pilings and drinks his green label each day
Writing his memoirs, losin’ his hearin’ but he don’t care what most people say
Through eighty-six years of perpetual motion, if he likes you he’ll smile, and he’ll say,
“Some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic, but I had a good life all of the way.”

And he went to Paris, lookin’ for answers to questions that bothered him so…

Knee Deep

[C] Gonna put away the world for a minute
[F] Pretend I don’t live in it
[C] Sunshine gonna [G] wash my blues a- [C] way [G7]
[C] Had sweet love but I lost it
[F] She got too close so I fought her
Now I’m [Am] lost in the [G] world trying to [F] find me a [G7] better [C] way (wishin’ I was)

[C] Knee deep in the water somewhere
Got the [F] Blue sky breeze and it don’t seem fair
[C] Only worry in the world is the
[G] Tide gonna reach my [C] chair [G7]
[C] Sunrise there’s a fire in the sky
Never [F] been so happy, never felt so high
And I [Am] think I might have [G] found me my [F] own kind of [G7] para- [C] dise

[C] Wrote a note said be back in a minute
[F] Bought a boat and I sailed off in it
[C] Don’t think anybody’s gonna [G] miss me any – [C] way [G7]
[C] Mind on a permanent vacation
[F] The ocean is my only medication
[Am] Wishing my con- [G] dition ain’t [F] ever gonna [G7] go a- [C] way

This [Am] champagne shore washing [C] over me
It’s a [G] sweet, sweet life, living by the [C] salty sea [C7]
[F] One day you could be as [C] lost as me
Change your geo- [D] graphy, maybe [G] you might [F] be [ Em – Dm ]

[C] Knee deep in the water [G7 !] some – [C !] where!

verse [ C12 – G12 – G74 – C4 ]
chorus [ F2 – G72 – C2 – C2 ]

Nibblin’ on sponge cake, watchin’ the sun bake
All of those tourists covered with oil
Strummin’ my six string, on my front porch swing
Smell those shrimp they’re beginning to boil

Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville
Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
But I know, oh it’s nobody’s fault

Don’t know the reason, stayed here all season
With nothin’ to show but this brand new tattoo
But it’s a real beauty, a Mexican cutie
How it got here I haven’t a clue

Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville…

Blew out my flip flop, stepped on a pop top
Cut my heal had to cruise on back home
But there’s booze in the blender, and soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on

Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville…

Pirate Looks at 40

[E] Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
[A] I wanted to sail upon your waters, since I was three feet [E] tall
You’ve seen it [F#m] all [B7] … , you’ve seen it [E] all…

Watched the men who rode you, switch from sail to steam
And in your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of ’em dream… , most of ’em dream…

Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don’t thunder, nothing to plunder, I’m an over-40 victim of fate
Arriving too late… , arriving too late…

I’ve done a bit of smuggling, I’ve run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last… , never meant to last…

I have been drunk now for over two weeks, passed out and rallied and sprung a few leaks
But I’ve gotta stop wishin’, got to go fishin’, down to rock bottom again
Just a few friends… , just a few friends…

Mother, mother ocean, after all the years I’ve found
My occupational hazard being my occupation’s just not around
Feel like I’ve drowned… , Gonna head uptown…
Feel like I’ve drowned… , Gonna head uptown…

[D] Now, I don’t know, I don’t [A] know
[D] I don’t know where [G] I’m a gonna go when de
[D] Vol [A7] -cano [D] blow (let me say now)
[D] I don’t know, I don’t [A] know

[D] Vol [A7] -cano [D] blow

[D] Ground she’s movin’ [G] under [D] me [D-D-G-D]

Now my girl quickly say to me
Mon, you better watch your feet
Lava come down soft and hot
Ya betta lava me now or lava me not

No time to count what I’m worth
‘Cause I just left the planet Earth
Where I go I hope there’s rum
Not to worry mon, soon come
